East Jakarta City Government pushes PMR to become pioneers of healthy living and environmental care
Jakarta — The East Jakarta City Government (Jaktim) is promoting thousands of members of the Indonesian Red Cross Youth (PMR) in the area to become pioneers of healthy living and environmental care in schools and society. ‘PMR is expected to become agents of change, leading the adoption of healthy living patterns through a programme of waste reduction and sorting,’ said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin as he attended the inauguration of more than 6,000 PMR members at the Mula, Madya, and Wira levels for 2026 at the East Jakarta City Hall on Saturday.
In the event organised by the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) East Jakarta City, Munjirin stated that PMR plays an important role as agents of change among the younger generation. According to him, through PMR activities, students are not only equipped with first-aid skills but are also taught humanitarian values, social concern, and even discipline in daily life. “Through the PMR extracurricular platform, humanitarian values, social care, discipline, and the ability to help others are taught,” Munjirin said. He also praised PMI East Jakarta City for consistently guiding the younger generation through various educational and humanitarian activities. Munjirin also awarded schools that actively support PMR mentoring within educational environments.
The 2026 PMR inauguration was attended by students from various schools in East Jakarta. Before being officially sworn in, PMR members had undergone Red Cross orientation and the seven PMR training modules (Pendidikan dan Latihan, or Diklat) organised by PMI East Jakarta City in February.
Meanwhile, Bambang Pangestu, chairman of PMI East Jakarta City, said PMR development is part of an effort to shape a generation of youth who are caring, independent, and possess humanitarian spirit. “PMR is not merely an extracurricular activity but a vehicle for shaping the character of the younger generation. We hope all PMR members will become youths who care for others, possess first-aid skills, and are ready to be pioneers of healthy living and humanitarianism in schools and in the wider community,” he explained. Bambang added that PMI East Jakarta City will continue to present adolescent development programmes that are healthy, creative, and have a positive impact on the wider community. He noted that the PMR presence is an effective means of forming a generation that is not only academically intelligent but also empathetic and highly socially responsible. Bambang hopes PMR development can continue uninterrupted so as to create a generation of youths with character who are ready to participate in social humanitarian activities within the community. With more than 6,000 members, PMR East Jakarta continues to strive to be a positive force in spreading a culture of healthy living, social concern, and the spirit of mutual cooperation in schools and the wider community.
