East Jakarta City Government has partnered with 24 social organisations to counter terrorism and radicalism in the area.

East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin stated, “Active participation from the entire community will greatly assist law enforcement in early detection of radical movements and terrorist activities,” on Tuesday in Jakarta.

He added that the event organisation by East Jakarta’s Kesbangpol (National Unity and Political Affairs Bureau) is crucial for heightening vigilance against terrorism and radicalism.

Meanwhile, East Jakarta City Secretary Eka Darmawan said the awareness campaign aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the importance of being vigilant against terrorism and radicalism within communities.

The initiative also serves as a platform to gather input and proposals from attendees as part of public participation in preventing terrorism and radicalism.

Eka reminded all community elements to avoid stigmatising specific religious or ethnic groups when addressing radicalism and terrorism issues.

“Handling these issues must be done fairly, proportionally, and without causing societal divisions,” he said.

Eka further emphasised that radicalism and terrorism cannot be resolved solely through security measures but require a multi-dimensional approach involving various societal elements, including social organisations.

“A multi-dimensional approach is needed to address the root causes by engaging various stakeholders, including social organisations,” he added.

During the event, participants received briefings on the patterns of radical ideology dissemination, prevention strategies within communities, and the importance of strengthening tolerance and unity as a defence against violent ideologies.

Eka expressed hope that through this initiative, all community members would become more proactive in identifying and anticipating potential terrorist and radical threats to maintain security and order, ensuring East Jakarta remains conducive.
