East Jakarta City Government Opens Vehicle Storage During Mudik, Mayor Says: You Never Know Which Day Will Be a Bad One

JAKARTA — The East Jakarta City Government has launched a vehicle storage service at several government offices during the Lebaran mudik period in 2026. East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin said the service is intended to give residents who are Mudik and are not bringing their vehicles to their hometowns a sense of security. ‘We, the East Jakarta Administrative City Government, are providing a vehicle storage service for residents who do not bring their vehicles during Mudik, at the kecamatan offices, kelurahan offices and the mayor’s office,’ Munjirin said in a written statement on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He explained that the kelurahan and kecamatan offices, and even the wali kota’s office, would be guarded daily throughout the Mudik period. In addition to vehicles, Munjirin reminded Mudik travellers to entrust their homes to neighbours or local community administrators so that their conditions could be monitored. He also urged residents who do not Mudik to help safeguard the neighbourhood during the Lebaran holiday. ‘Residents who do not Mudik should also help look after their village. Each person can collaborate with RT, RW, LMK (Lembaga Musyawarah Kelurahan), FKDM (Forum Kewaspadaan Dini Masyarakat) and all community leaders against negative actions. If this is done, we are confident this can prevent disturbances to public order and safety in East Jakarta,’ he said.
