East Jakarta City Government Intensifies TB Screening via Free Health Check-ups, Targeting 77,000 Residents

The East Jakarta City Government is intensifying a tuberculosis (TBC) screening programme integrated with the Free Health Check-up (CKG) scheme, targeting more than 77,000 residents. There are 778 focus locations spread across East Jakarta, with each site aiming to screen 100 residents, bringing the total target to 77,800 people in an effort to reduce the number of TBC cases, according to Fauzi, Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs for East Jakarta City, on Thursday. Fauzi stated that this screening is a shared responsibility for sub-district and urban village heads to ensure involvement at each focus location in order to suppress the number of people indicated to have TBC. The Cililitan Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA) is one of the 778 focus locations targeted to significantly reduce TBC case numbers. In addition to early detection, public education must continue to eliminate the negative stigma against TBC sufferers, which often leads to patients being ostracised or isolated from their surroundings. Fauzi emphasised that community involvement is crucial because there is still a stigma where people are afraid to associate with those who have TBC, leading to their isolation. Through this screening, he urged residents not to be afraid to seek treatment in order to break the chain of transmission early. Prevention efforts are also being consistently carried out by implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behaviour (PHBS) and maintaining overall health. The programme aims to build public understanding that anyone indicated to have TBC must immediately get examined and treated quickly so they can be handled promptly and do not transmit the disease to others.
