The East Jakarta City Government is conducting surveillance on the circulation of meat from rabies-transmitting animals (HPR) at regional speciality restaurants in the Ciracas and Kramat Jati areas. East Jakarta Assistant for Economy and Development Fauzi stated on Monday that approximately 40 joint personnel were deployed to monitor eateries in Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village, Ciracas District, and Cililitan Urban Village, Kramat Jati District. The joint team targeted several restaurants suspected of selling HPR meat, including dog, monkey, and civet. In addition to conducting inspections, officers also took processed food samples for laboratory testing. Fauzi explained that the surveillance is an implementation of Gubernatorial Regulation Number 36 of 2025 concerning the Supervision of Rabies-Transmitting Animals. This measure is also part of the government’s effort to ensure that no HPR meat is consumed by the public. He emphasised the commitment to controlling HPR to prevent their meat from being consumed and to ensure that rabies is no longer present in Jakarta. Head of the East Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Sub-agency, Taufik Yulianto, noted that the monitoring involved personnel from the KPKP Sub-agency, the Health Sub-agency, the Civil Service Police Unit, sub-district and urban village officials, as well as support from local community units. He stated that the initiative prioritises guidance and education for business operators and the public regarding the dangers of consuming HPR meat. If processed products containing HPR meat are found during the inspection of the six targeted restaurants, samples will be taken for further examination at the KPKP Agency laboratory.
