East Jakarta City Government Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Parking on Dewi Sartika Road

The East Jakarta City Government, together with joint personnel, is intensifying a crackdown on illegal parking on Jalan Dewi Sartika in Cawang to restore the function of pavements for pedestrians.

“Pavements are not for parking vehicles, and do not park on pavements, because pavements are only for pedestrians,” said Head of the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-department, Harlem Simanjuntak, in Jakarta on Monday.

Harlem stated that this routine operation is carried out to educate residents of East Jakarta not to break the rules. He mentioned that during the operation, six motorcycles were seized and impounded by officers.

“From the six vehicles that were confiscated, the owners were given a warning not to repeat similar actions in the future,” he said.

Harlem detailed that this enforcement action is regulated by Regional Regulation Number 5 of 2014 on Transportation. The operation on Monday involved 40 joint personnel from the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-department, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

“We urge all residents of East Jakarta to comply with the regulations for our collective comfort, and what we are doing is intended to create a deterrent effect for the violators and also for other residents so they do not follow this wrong behaviour,” Harlem stated.

Meanwhile, Cawang Sub-district Head Gia Junian Putranto expressed appreciation for the enforcement action carried out by the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-department through the illegal parking operation.

“Hopefully, what has been done will serve as a good lesson for residents not to break the rules. Pavements are not for parking vehicles; please park in the designated places to maintain shared comfort and order,” said Gia.
