East Jakarta City Government catches illegal waste dumpers in Ciracas
The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim) has carried out a sting operation (OTT) against individuals dumping waste illegally on Jalan Raya Bogor, Ciracas.
“(Last night) I was present to see it directly and one illegal waste dumper was found in the Ciracas area,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin when confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
The one offender was successfully apprehended and is being processed by civil servant investigators (PPNS) to be fined.
“The one person is being processed directly by civil servant investigators (PPNS). The offender will be subject to sanctions in accordance with existing regulations,” he said.
Munjirin said sub-district and ward officials will continue to move to locations where offenders like to dump waste on the roadside.
The sting operation was carried out in accordance with Jakarta Regional Regulation No. 3 of 2013 on Waste Management. Residents who dump waste in rivers, roads, parks, or from vehicles in undesignated places can be fined up to Rp500,000.
In addition, Munjirin said enforcement of the rules through sting operations will be carried out routinely so that the behaviour of illegal waste dumping does not recur.
“We will continue to do this in East Jakarta City. I have asked for this to be made routine because I fear that if it is not made routine, waste dumpers will again dump waste illegally,” he said.
Munjirin hopes that sub-district and ward officials will routinely schedule patrols to locations that are often used by people to dump waste illegally.
Before starting the sting operation, Munjirin attended a joint assembly at the Ciracas Ward Office. He was accompanied by East Jakarta City Administration Secretary Eka Darmawan, East Jakarta City Administration Government Assistant Bambang Pangestu, and East Jakarta City Administration Economy and Development Assistant Fauzi.
