East Jakarta City Government Accelerates Repair of Collapsed Bridge in Ciracas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta City Government (Pemkot Jaktim), through the Sub-Directorate of Road Infrastructure, is accelerating repairs to the collapsed bridge on Jalan Pule RW 10, Ciracas, East Jakarta. “We are ensuring that the handling of the collapsed bridge on Jalan Pule, Ciracas, is carried out quickly and thoroughly,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin when contacted by ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday. He mentioned that currently, the Sub-Directorate of Road Infrastructure, along with the Sub-Directorate of Water Resources, is focusing on strengthening the structure, particularly the retaining walls under the bridge. “So, this repair is to make it stronger and safer for vehicles to cross in the future, including heavy vehicles,” Munjirin stated. Meanwhile, Ciracas Sub-District Head Panangaran Ritonga said the bridge repair process is estimated to take about one month, so that the bridge construction will be stronger and safer for vehicles, especially four-wheeled ones. “We target about one month so that in the future it can be crossed by cars again,” Ritonga remarked. During the repair period, access for four-wheeled vehicles is temporarily closed. Motorcycle riders can still pass through the riverbank side that leads to the main road near SMPN 171 Rambutan, according to the alternative route directed by officers on site. The condition caused the bridge’s supporting structure to become hollow, unable to withstand the heavy load of passing vehicles. “When crossed by a truck or heavy load, the bridge’s load can no longer be held and it collapses. That’s why the retaining walls are first reinforced with new concrete,” Ritonga explained. The bridge repair is being carried out in stages, cleaning up debris before recasting. Officers were seen excavating leftover materials such as stones and concrete that fell into the waterway under the bridge. The depth of the stream under the bridge is estimated to reach two to three metres, with water height around 20 to 30 centimetres. Previously, the bridge collapse occurred on Wednesday afternoon (15/4). In a video that went viral on social media Instagram @kabarcibubur24jam, a truck was seen getting stuck while crossing the bridge. After the incident, local residents immediately closed access to the bridge by installing simple barriers to prevent vehicles from passing. Car drivers were directed to turn back, while motorbike riders were diverted to alleys around the incident site. The bridge is an important access connecting Jalan Raya Centex with Jalan Baru in the Ciracas area.
