East Jakarta Administration Seals Padel Court Operating Under Lodging House Permit
Jakarta — The East Jakarta Municipal Government sealed a padel court building that did not conform to its designated permit usage, operating under a boarding house authorisation.
“This morning I witnessed the East Jakarta Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Agency (CKTRP) carry out the sealing of a padel court in Kebon Pala Village,” said East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin at Jalan Kolonel Sutomo, Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta.
A padel court in Kebon Pala Village, Makasar District was sealed by the Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Agency (CKTRP) due to alleged misuse of the building permit.
Munjirin explained that the padel court was the eighth location sealed by the East Jakarta Public Works Agency.
“The sealing was carried out because the building permit held did not match the function of the building currently in use,” he said.
According to him, the building permit was issued in 2018 and was intended for a boarding house. However, in practice, the building was instead used as a padel court.
He stressed that all construction in the East Jakarta region must comply with applicable licensing regulations, both in terms of building function and administrative process.
The East Jakarta Municipal Government hopes that business owners or developers who wish to construct sports facilities, including padel courts, can obtain licences correctly to prevent spatial planning violations.
“Our hope is that all East Jakarta residents carrying out construction, particularly padel court construction, will comply with existing regulations, both in terms of licensing and alignment of construction with issued permits,” Munjirin said.
Regarding further steps following the sealing, he stated that technical decisions regarding possible demolition or other sanctions would be determined by the East Jakarta Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Agency according to applicable procedures.
Previously, the East Jakarta Municipal Government permanently sealed a padel court in the Pulomas area, Kayu Putih Village, Pulogadung District.
“We have carried out re-sealing. We had sealed it before. Secondly, we issued a warning letter to carry out permanent sealing of this building,” said Head of the East Jakarta Public Works, Spatial Planning and Land Agency Wiwit Djalu Adji after posting a notification board at the padel court location in Pulomas, East Jakarta, on Thursday (26 February).
This action was taken due to discovered building permit non-compliance and the lack of a certificate of functional suitability (SLF).
