East Jakarta Administration Equips 100 Culinary MSMEs with Training to Enter Modern Retail Market
The East Jakarta city government has equipped 100 micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) actors in the culinary sector with training to face the modern retail market. East Jakarta City Secretary Eka Darmawan stated that the training is a form of the administration’s commitment to encouraging MSMEs to upgrade through capacity building and market access expansion. “The Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Sub-agency (PPKUKM) of East Jakarta has equipped 100 MSME actors with capacity-building training so they can face the modern retail market,” Eka said in Jakarta on Wednesday. According to Eka, collaboration between the regional government and the private sector is a key strategy for creating quality, innovative, and competitive MSME products. He also noted that public support for local MSME products is a crucial factor in strengthening the regional economy. “When everyone collaborates, it becomes a strategy to create quality, innovative, and competitive MSME products capable of penetrating modern retail networks,” Eka explained. He expressed hope that the training would enhance the capacity of MSME actors, from product quality and packaging to sustainable business development skills. This initiative aligns with Jakarta’s vision to improve family welfare and economic growth, particularly in East Jakarta. Meanwhile, Head of the East Jakarta PPKUKM Sub-agency Andi Ahmad Refi explained that the 100 culinary MSME participants came from 10 sub-districts across East Jakarta. They produce a variety of processed foods such as chips, snacks, light meals, and other food products. All participants have met business legality requirements, including possessing a Business Identification Number (NIB), a Home Industry Food Production Certificate (SPP-IRT) or BPOM permit, and a halal certificate. “These legalities are the main requirements for MSME products to be marketed in modern retail networks,” Andi said. In addition to training materials, participants also brought their flagship products to undergo a curation process with PT Indomarco Prismatama (Indomaret). The curation includes assessments of product quality, packaging, and overall readiness before being marketed in modern retail outlets. Andi hopes that through this training and curation, more local MSME products will meet modern market standards, thereby expanding their marketing reach, increasing competitiveness, and encouraging business actors to upgrade.
