East Jakarta Administration Closes Two Access Points to Cawang Urban Forest Following Discovery of Contraceptive Devices
Jakarta — The East Jakarta municipal government has closed two access points to Cawang Urban Forest in Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta, following the discovery of contraceptive devices within the area.
The discovery was made when a team from the Sub-agency of Parks and Urban Forests, together with Makasar District officials, conducted a site inspection to seal the access routes to the urban forest.
“We found several contraceptive devices inside. We don’t know what they were being used for, and we hope to work together to maintain this park so it can be used for positive activities,” said Makasar District Head Dimas Prayudi at Cawang Urban Forest on Friday (23 February 2026).
“There are two points that we are attempting to close permanently today by concreting them, working together with the parks sub-agency. After that, there will be maintenance and attention to the park so its function can be maximised,” Dimas stated.
In addition to closing the access points, the government will carry out further improvements to restore the function of the green space as an optimal public area.
To enhance surveillance, the East Jakarta municipal government will install additional lighting around the area, including spotlights.
“The road maintenance team will add lighting so activities here are also visible from outside. Two spotlights will be installed,” he explained.
The municipal government will also conduct joint patrols involving the Civil Service Police, police, and the military to prevent deviant activities in the area.
Previously, a viral video on social media showed a group of men entering Cawang Urban Forest located on DI Panjaitan Street, Kebon Pala, Makasar, East Jakarta.
The video was posted by Instagram account @ijoeel and stated that the area is frequently used as a gathering point for men at night.
“I don’t know why this place is often used for men to gather. I don’t know what kind of gathering it is,” said the video recorder in the post.
The recorder also noted that such activities frequently occur in the early morning hours.
“I don’t know what they intend to do. Every night after 01:00 hours, they enter the park without knowing what they want to do. Yet this park is dark,” the video recorder said.
The East Jakarta municipal government emphasised that the steps of closing access points, adding lighting, and conducting regular patrols are intended to ensure the park’s function as a green space is maintained and used for positive activities by the community.
