East Flores Regent Refuses to Fund Treatment for Victims of Adonara Clash
East Flores Regent Antonius Doni Dihen has spoken out regarding the clash between residents of Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village in Adonara Timur District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Antonius emphasised that the government will not cover the medical treatment costs for the victims of the inter-village conflict.
“We firmly will not fund treatment resulting from war. Those who decide to wage war must gentlemanly bear all the costs,” Anton said when confirmed by detikBali on Monday (11/5/2026).
He assessed that the conflict has harmed the region, including because the government must incur additional expenses for the needs of security apparatus. Therefore, according to him, village governments must also share responsibility in maintaining security in their respective areas. Anton even stated that the regional government could deduct Village Fund Allocations (ADD) if the victims’ medical costs are covered first by the government.
“War has already disadvantaged the region by funding the consumption of security apparatus. Therefore, for the sake of justice, we will not fund the treatment of war victims. If they go into debt, we will deduct the village fund allocation. Village governments must be responsible for security matters. If you love Lewotana East Flores, stop the war,” Anton stressed.
He also urged the community to stop the culture of war as a way to resolve issues. According to him, clashes only bring losses and suffering to the residents.
“War only causes hardship. The pride of Lewo (village) no longer needs to be shown through the ferocity of war,” he added.
Anton assessed that inter-village conflicts in recent decades have never truly resolved issues, including land disputes. He also highlighted the changing meaning of customary wars, which he believes are far different from the past.
“Recent wars are chaotic wars. Different from pure customary wars in the past that were aimed at seeking truth,” he explained.
To prevent similar conflicts from recurring, Antonius encouraged resolving problems through dialogue and communication between communities. He asked residents to be wiser in managing emotions to safeguard the future of the next generation.
“It is better to talk nicely. There must be a culture of talking, dialogue. There must be intelligence in managing emotions. If not, we will pass on something very bad to our future generations,” he emphasised.
Previously, the number of victims from the clash between Narasaosina Village and Waiburak Village in Adonara Timur Subdistrict, East Flores, has increased to seven people. Previous records showed six victims from the clash.
The additional victim is named Fildan Ahmad, a resident of Bele Village. The 24-year-old man was referred to Lewoleba Regional General Hospital, Lembata, NTT, on Sunday morning (10/5/2026).
“He was admitted this morning at 06:40 WITA. There is a wound on the forehead. We referred the patient to Lembata at 09:45 WITA via Boleng Port,” said the Head of Ile Boleng Community Health Centre, Stef, to detikBali.
