The District Court of Larantuka in East Flores has sentenced NI (41), the perpetrator of sexual assault against a primary schoolgirl in East Flores Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur, to 11 years imprisonment. The sentence is heavier than the demand made by the public prosecutor.

“Ahead of Lebaran, the District Court of Larantuka imposed an 11-year prison sentence on the defendant accused of sexual violence against a 10-year-old girl,” stated the panel of judges, Mohamad Juliandri Rahman, on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

Juliandri noted that the verdict was read by a panel of judges comprising Mohamad Juliandri Rahman as chief judge, Samuel Aprianto and Reja El Hakim as associate judges. The court determined that the defendant had been proven to have committed violence against the minor victim, resulting in serious physical injuries.

“The incident took place in the East Flores area. In this occurrence, the victim suffered acts of violence that caused wounds to the neck area and bleeding around the eyes caused by strangulation,” he added.

Juliandri stated that medical examination results also showed abrasions on the neck resulting from pressure by a blunt object.

“In the judgment, the panel of judges imposed a prison sentence of 11 years on the defendant. This sentence is heavier than the demand made by the public prosecutor, who had previously sought 8 years and 6 months imprisonment,” he said.

Juliandri explained that the incident began when the victim was sent by her mother to shop at a kiosk. On the way home, the victim encountered the defendant, who then followed her, pulled her, and took her to an empty house.

“Before the rape, the victim was strangled and had her mouth covered until she suffered serious neck wounds and bleeding around the eyes,” he explained.

The panel of judges determined that the defendant’s actions caused serious consequences for the victim’s development due to trauma and affected her future. Consequently, the defendant received a heavier sentence to provide a sense of justice for the victim and to serve as a warning to prevent similar cases from occurring.
