East Belitung Regency Government Plants Hundreds of Trees to Prevent Abrasion at Lalang Beach

The East Belitung Regency Government, through its Environmental Agency (DLH), together with state-owned mining company PT Timah Tbk, has planted hundreds of casuarina trees at Lalang Beach to preserve the environment and prevent coastal abrasion. The activity also involved distributing plant seedlings and providing education on waste management to students.

Head of the East Belitung Environmental Agency, Adlan Taufik, stated that the tree planting, seedling distribution to schools, and waste management education for students at Lalang Beach were part of a collaboration between the East Belitung Regency Government and PT Timah (Persero) Tbk to commemorate this year’s World Environment Day.

He noted that waste remains a key issue requiring joint attention. The tree planting was focused on coastal areas to help prevent abrasion at Lalang Beach, which is currently at a worrying level as it approaches the shoreline.

He added that the World Environment Day commemoration serves as a means to strengthen public education on the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and sorting waste from an early stage. He expressed hope that the collaboration with PT Timah and other relevant agencies can continue to enhance collective awareness that environmental management must be carried out sustainably.
