East Bandung continues to grow as one of Bandung’s new urban areas. Over the past 11 years, the Summarecon Bandung area in Gedebage has developed into an integrated residential, commercial, and transport-connected zone. Hindarko Hasan, Executive Director of Summarecon Bandung, stated that Gedebage’s growth is evident through the various urban facilities in the Summarecon Bandung area. The development emphasises a balance between modern city building and environmental sustainability. ‘Green spaces, connectivity, and quality of life are the primary foundations of this area’s development,’ said Hindarko on Thursday (29 May). Hindako noted that the area has been developed since 2015 with a masterplan aligned with Bandung City’s Spatial Plan. Gedebage’s development is part of transforming East Bandung, which was previously less dense than the city centre. ‘Environmentally, the development has introduced lakes and city parks covering a total of 27 hectares. Green open spaces such as Sumringah Park serve as public facilities supporting community activities in the area,’ Hindako explained. Additionally, more than 2,000 residential units have been launched at Summarecon Bandung. Development continues, including the Xandari Cluster targeting premium housing with prices of IDR 28 billion per unit. Growth in the area is supported by commercial and lifestyle facilities. Summarecon Mall Bandung, opened in 2024, has become a new hub of activity in East Bandung. The area also features a food court, Sinpasa Modern Market, business spaces, and various commercial tenants. Connectivity is key to Gedebage’s development. The area is linked to the Gedebage KM 149 Padaleunyi Toll Exit and access to the Summarecon Tegalluar High-Speed Train Station. Travel time to the Whoosh transport mode is around 10 minutes from the area. Hindarko Hasan added that all elements of the area are designed to create a comfortable and dynamic urban environment. ‘This is achieved through integrated facilities, coordinated mobility, and a pedestrian-friendly concept throughout the area,’ he said. Educational and public facilities complement the area, including Al Azhar Summarecon Bandung Islamic School, Sedaya Bintang Integrated School, ITB Innovation Park, Al Azhar Summarecon Bandung Grand Mosque, Bethel Indonesia Church, and healthcare facilities. Nearby strategic facilities from Bandung City Government include Al Jabbar Grand Mosque and Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium. The development of East Bandung through Gedebage’s transformation was recognised at the Real Estate Asia Built Environment Awards 2026 in Singapore on Thursday (28 May). Summarecon Bandung won the Urban Regeneration category for transforming the area into a dynamic integrated city. The award was received by Hindarko Hasan, Executive Director of Summarecon Bandung. The Urban Regeneration category highlights developments that revitalise or transform urban areas through integrated and sustainable approaches. Summarecon President Director Adrianto P. Adhi said the award strengthens the company’s commitment to developing integrated cities with economic value alongside long-term social and environmental impacts. ‘Various awards, from national to international recognition, affirm Summarecon’s commitment to creating integrated cities that are not only economically valuable but also deliver long-term social and environmental benefits,’ Adrianto said. Simon Hyett, Contributing Editor for the Real Estate Asia Awards 2026, stated that award-winning projects are evaluated based on consistent innovation and sustainability principles. ‘Consistent innovation and development adhering to sustainability principles are the key values that make projects stand out as winners in this award,’ Hyett said. Summarecon Bandung is one of nine integrated city developments by PT Summarecon Agung Tbk.
