East Aceh Regency Government Rebuilds Flood-Damaged Schools

The East Aceh Regency Government is rebuilding schools that were damaged by floods during the hydrometeorological disasters that hit the regency in late November 2025.

On Wednesday, the Regent of East Aceh, Iskandar Usman Alfarlaky, alongside the Kompas Humanitarian Fund Foundation, laid the foundation stone for the school construction in East Aceh.

“The construction of this school is not merely about building a new edifice, but also about planting new hope for the future generations of East Aceh,” said Iskermar Usman Alfarlaky.

According to him, the local government continues to strive to provide schools that are comfortable, safe, and of high quality. He noted that the generation produced by good schools will serve as the primary asset in realising a more advanced Aceh in the future.

The Regent stated that education is a long-term investment that deserves serious attention from all parties. Therefore, the local government welcomes the support of various humanitarian organisations in assisting post-disaster recovery, particularly within the education sector.

Iskandar Usman urged the community to support the construction process until completion and called for no parties to obstruct the work on the ground.

“I also request that village heads and officials provide full support for this development. No party should hinder the construction of this school, as it is entirely for the educational interests of our children,” said Iskandar Usman Alfarlaky.

Meanwhile, Adi Priantyo, a representative of the Kompas Humanitarian Fund Foundation, stated that Aceh Province is the first region to receive the foundation’s post-disaster school construction programme.

“Among the three provinces affected by disasters on Sumatra Island, Aceh is the first location to receive this programme. Following Aceh, we will implement similar programmes in other disaster-affected areas,” he said.

Adi Priantyo added that the construction of SD Negeri Teumpeun is planned to begin in the near future and is targeted for completion by early December 2026.

“The presence of the new school building is expected not only to restore educational facilities damaged by the floods but also to enhance the quality of education for the younger generation in the West Peureulak region,” said Adi Priantyo.
