Earthquake Shakes NTT Again, Magnitude 5 in Manggarai
An earthquake has again shaken the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region. This time, tremors measuring magnitude 5.0 were reported in the Ruteng area, Manggarai Regency, in the early hours of Monday (17/8).
According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) via its official X account, the earthquake occurred at around 00.26 WIB. BMKG analysis shows that the epicentre was located at coordinates 7.93 South Latitude and 120.50 East Longitude.
Specifically, the earthquake was located approximately 75 kilometres northeast of Ruteng, Manggarai, NTT. The quake was classified as shallow, with a focal depth of 10 kilometres.
Although the earthquake reached magnitude 5.0, BMKG confirmed that the tectonic event did not trigger high sea waves. “No tsunami potential,” BMKG stated in its official release.
As of the time this report was filed, there had been no official reports regarding damage to buildings or casualties resulting from the tremors. The public has been urged to remain calm, follow the instructions of relevant authorities, and not be influenced by unverified information.
