Earthquake rocks Lombok capital

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale jolted Mataram in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The quake, which occured at 3:22 a.m., woke residents and sent them scurrying out of their houses.

An official of the meteorological and geophysical office in Denpasar, Bali, said the epicenter was traced to 12 kilometers below sea level in the Lombok Strait.

No casualties or severe damage was reported, Antara said.

On Nov. 17 last year, Mataram was rocked by an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale.
