Pertamina Patra Niag Regional Sulawesi has ensured that energy supplies continue to run safely following a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in South Philippines and the North Sulawesi region. The Integrated Terminal Manager of Bitung, Arman Prastiono, revealed that immediately after the earthquake occurred, Pertamina activated emergency response procedures to ensure the safety of workers, partners, and the reliability of operational facilities.

“We continue to monitor the developments following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday morning (8/6), which had the potential to cause a tsunami in several areas of North Sulawesi,” he stated in Bitung on Monday night, 9 June 2026.

As a mitigation measure, all employees and partners were gathered at designated assembly points in accordance with safety procedures. “Safety is our top priority in every emergency condition. Once the tremors subsided, the team immediately conducted a thorough inspection of all operational facilities and equipment. The results of the inspection show that the main facilities at the Bitung Integrated Terminal are in a safe condition and ready to support energy distribution to the community,” said Armman.

He added that the HSSE, Security, and Reliability Station teams also conducted patrols and inspections of the facility areas and pipelines to ensure there were no impacts affecting safety or operational aspects. Pertamina also continues to anticipate potential aftershocks by conducting regular field monitoring and coordinating with relevant agencies to obtain the latest information regarding the situation.

Arman explained that as an anticipatory measure against potential tsunami risks, operations at the Tahuna Fuel Terminal were temporarily suspended following directives from the local government, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and relevant local authorities. Based on initial inspections, the operational facilities at the Tahuna Fuel Terminal are in a safe condition and have not experienced any impacts that would disrupt the reliability of energy distribution infrastructure.

Operations at the Tahuna Fuel Terminal will resume once official information is received from the BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency) and competent authorities stating that conditions are safe for operation. Meanwhile, other Pertamina operational facilities in the affected areas, such as the Bitung Integrated Terminal, Gorontalo Integrated Terminal, and the Sam Ratulangi Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT), have undergone thorough inspections and are monitored to be in safe condition.
