Earth quake rocks Bengkulu

BENGKULU, Bengkulu: An earth quake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted the province over the weekend. There was no immediate word on casualties or damage.

The quake struck at around 7:30 Friday. Its epicenter was in the Indian Ocean about 187 kilometers from Bengkulu, Antara reported yesterday.

The quake was the biggest of the 50 earthquakes that have rocked Bengkulu this year, local meteorology and geophysics officials noted.

The office recorded 418 quakes last year with intensities ranging between four and five on the Richter scale. (12)
