Jakarta – State revenue from electric cigarette excise tax increased 3.42% year-on-year in January 2026. Data from the Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance showed that e-cigarette excise tax revenue in January 2026 reached Rp 0.37 trillion, up 3.42% compared to January 2025 at Rp 0.19 trillion.

The increase in revenue is attributed to a dramatic 90% year-on-year surge in production. The largest revenue contributions come from open-system liquid products, followed by closed-system liquids and solid products.

Since 1 January 2024, electric cigarettes have been officially subject to Tobacco Excise Tax (CHT) as well as piggyback taxes, as stipulated in the Ministry of Finance Regulation (PMK). These products, which are liquid-based, solid, or other forms heated using an electrical device, differ from conventional cigarettes which are burnt.
