Early iPhone Duo Users Report Screen Problems
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Some early iPhone Duo users have reported screen problems with Apple’s first foldable device on Reddit and the MacRumors forum.
According to a GizChina report on Friday (23 October), several iPhone Duo owners shared photos of cracks near the device’s hinge, raising questions about the durability of the foldable phone.
Some photos show cracks running along the centre fold of the iPhone Duo’s screen. In several cases, the damage also caused bright pixel lines to appear on one side of the display.
An iPhone Duo owner in Australia said their phone’s screen was damaged after it had been opened fewer than 20 times. They said they felt something near the hinge while opening the phone, then heard a cracking sound.
After that, the owner’s screen stopped working, even though neither the screen’s surface nor the outside of the hinge appeared damaged. The owner said they had taken the device to an Apple Store and contacted Apple to obtain a replacement.
Photos of iPhone Duo devices with damaged screens have appeared online, but it is not yet clear whether the problem is widespread. The cause of the damage is also unknown.
Some reviewers have tested the iPhone Duo by opening and closing it repeatedly without finding any screen problems. However, those tests involved only a small number of devices and cannot prove that every unit is free from the risk of damage.
Apple has not confirmed a hardware defect in the iPhone Duo. As customers have had their devices for only a short time, the company may need time to establish how frequently screen problems occur.
Screen repairs are expensive. In the United States, Apple charges US$999 (about Rp18 million) to repair the inner screen for users without AppleCare+.
With AppleCare+, the repair cost can fall to US$99 (about Rp1.8 million) for eligible accidental damage. Hinge damage caused by a product defect should be covered by the phone’s one-year warranty.
According to MacRumors, buyers also have two weeks to return the device.
