London (ANTARA) - The leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, collectively known as the E3, stated on Sunday their support for direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia to achieve a ceasefire and advance peace negotiations, following talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz issued a joint statement with Zelensky following the meeting. In the statement, the E3 leaders expressed support for direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, with the active involvement of the United Nations, the United States, and Europe.

The four leaders called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, stating that the current line of contact should serve as the starting point for negotiations.

According to the statement, Europe should play a vital role in the peace process, with various related efforts being conducted through close coordination with Ukraine, European partners, and the US.

The leaders also discussed security arrangements for Ukraine post-ceasefire. The statement noted that European security interests must be guaranteed in any agreement, and matters relating to the European Union and NATO would require the approval of their respective members.
