E. Timor to have new ABRI chief

DILI, East Timor: Local military chief Col. Kiki Syahnakri
will hand over his post tomorrow to Col. L. Simbolon.

Udayana Military Command chief Maj. Gen. Adang
Ruchiatna--whose territory covers the Nusa Tenggara, Bali and
East Timor provinces--will lead the ceremony.

Kiki, who held the position for eight months, told the Post he
will be posted at military headquarters in Jakarta.

The usual term for local military chief is 14 months.

L. Simbolon sprang to prominence in the province after his
role in the arrest of Jose Alexandre "Xanana" Gusmao, leader of
the Fretilin pro-independence movement. (yac/swe)
