E. Timor awaits Soeharto's visit

DILI, East Timor: President Soeharto is expected to visit the
province some time next year to dedicate a large statue of Christ
at a cape about five kilometers from here.

The statue will stand at the top of a hill overlooking the
sea. Workers are now constructing the road towards the site while
the statue itself is being designed and built by students of the
Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).

The source of the information, who asked to remain anonymous,
did not say when the statue would be dedicated.

The hoped for visit, if it comes to pass, will be the third by
Soeharto since East Timor's integration with Indonesia in 1976.
The first two visits were in 1978 and 1988. (yac/emb)
