E. Java wins track and field tourney
JAKARTA (JP): East Java romped home with nine golds, seven silvers and five bronzes to win the overall title at the second leg of Java-Bali track and field championships series in Yogyakarta on Sunday.
Syaiful gave East Java one more gold from the pole vault competition after he leapt 3.6 meters. The organizers, however, named the pole vault a non-full-fledged medal event.
Central Java, winner of the previous stop here, had to be satisfied with second place after collecting five golds, 10 silvers and four bronzes, ahead of West Java which garnered four golds, a silver and two bronzes.
Yogyakarta athletes, despite the furious support of their home crowd, finished at the wooden spoon with two golds, four silvers and seven bronzes. (amd)
