E. Java to build technology park
SURABAYA: The East Java provincial administration has picked a
40 hectare lot on the campus of the Surabaya Institute of
Technology for its Technology Park, Antara reported.
The head of the city planning and development agency,
Moehtadi, said yesterday that construction will start next month.
The park, he said, will resemble a technology park in Perth,
Australia. East Java and West Australia were declared "sister
province/state" in 1990.
A number of experts from Perth are currently studying what
technologies will operate from the East Java park.
The park will be equipped with facilities for research and
development in applied technology. Local industrialists welcome
the project because it will reduce their industrial research
costs by 30 percent. (swe)
