DVI Team Identifies All Deceased Victims of the Virgo Ship Sinking

Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the South Kalimantan Regional Police has successfully identified all of the deceased victims recovered from the sinking of the Virgo Transport 8 in the Java Sea on Sunday (13 September).

“Of the six bodies found by the joint search and rescue team, all have now been identified today,” said the Head of the Medical and Health Division of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Senior Police Commissioner Dr Much Sofwan, in Banjarmasin on Tuesday.

Today the DVI team examined five bodies that arrived at Bhayangkara Hospital in Banjarmasin following a lengthy evacuation process at sea since Sunday (13 September).

The five were identified as Nurul Rian Hidayat from Pamekasan, Deny Ridzal Saputra from Kediri, Imam Soeparno from Surabaya, Erick Maisul Latif from Garut, and Risyan Kurnia Putra from Garut.

Sofwan said that two of the bodies, namely Reyner Fausta Yosilianto and Nurul Rian Hidayat, had been collected by their families and flown to Surabaya.

Compensation from Jasa Raharja has been paid to the lawful heirs, whilst the remaining four bodies are still awaiting collection by their families.

The Head of Public Relations of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Senior Police Commissioner Nur Khamid, urged families who believe their relatives were victims of the Virgo ship disaster to come forward to the post-mortem and ante-mortem data collection service.

The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) confirmed that 114 victims have been found, comprising 108 survivors and six deceased, meaning 129 people remain missing out of the 243 passengers aboard the Virgo ship.
