DVI Successfully Identifies Three Victims of Virgo Ship Sinking
The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team of the South Kalimantan Regional Police has successfully identified three victims of the sinking of the Virgo Transport 8 vessel in the Java Sea, all of whom were residents of South Kalimantan.
“The identities are a male named Muhammad Abdianoor (30) and a female named Yuli (29) from Banjarmasin, and a male named Surya (59) from Tapin Regency,” stated the Head of the South Kalimantan Police Medical and Health Division, Kombes Pol dr Much Sofwan, in Banjarmasin on Saturday.
Sofwan explained that the South Kalimantan Police DVI team, assisted by the National Police Medical and Health DVI and the South Kalimantan Police Inafis, performed a comparison between ante-mortem data collected from families and post-mortem examinations of the deceased.
As a result, Muhammad Abdianoor was identified via medical features, Yuli through dental structures, while Surya was identified through fingerprints and medical features.
Once the victims’ identities were confirmed, the Bhayangkara Banjarmasin Hospital immediately released the bodies to their respective families.
The Head of Public Relations for the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Pol Nur Khamid, added that a total of 117 victims have now been evacuated, consisting of 108 survivors and nine fatalities.
The Virgo Transport 8 sank last Sunday (13/9) in the Java Sea while carrying a total of 243 passengers and crew from Surabaya to Banjarmasin. Joint SAR teams continue their efforts to search for and rescue any remaining victims.
