Banjarmasin (ANTARA) - The South Kalimantan Regional Police’s DVI team has noted that the highest number of deceased victims identified so far from the Virgo Transport 8 ship accident originate from East Java.
“From East Java, a total of 28 people have been identified,” stated the Head of the South Kalimantan Regional Police Medical and Health Division, Kombes Pol dr Much Sofwan, in Banjermasin on Sunday.
The first victim identified on Monday (14/9) was Reyner Fausta Yosilianto (22) from Malang, East Java, who was identified via fingerprint records.
Reyner’s identification marked the beginning of the series of identification processes for the Virgo ship victims conducted by the South Kalimantan Regional Police DVI team, as deceased victims were brought to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Banjarmasin.
A total of 17 other bodies are still undergoing the identification process, which includes sending DNA samples to the National Police Medical and Health Centre in Jakarta.
The second highest number of identified victims comes from Central Java with 16 people, followed by South Kalimantan with eight people and West Java with six people.
Sofwan requested that families remain patient while the identification process continues.
“We are working without holidays; we work even on Saturdays and Sundays, especially when bodies are received, as we immediately perform examinations and match ante-mortem data provided by families,” he added.
