DVI Identifies Two Victims of KM Nur Salsa Ferry Disaster

The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has successfully identified two bodies recovered from the KM Nur Salsa ferry accident in the waters off Selayar Islands Regency, South Sulawesi.

Kombes Pol Muhammad Haris, Head of Medical and Health at the South Sulawesi Regional Police, stated that body bag number PM 62 B01 Selayar matched reference number AM002. The victim was identified as Hasriati, a 44-year-old female resident of Garassi Hamlet, East Pasimasunggu Village, Selayar Islands Regency. Identification was confirmed through dental records, medical data, and personal property.

The second body bag, numbered PM 62 B02 Selayar, matched reference number AM001. The victim was identified as Bau Intang, a 50-year-old female from Putabangun, Bontoharu, Selayar Islands Regency, identified via fingerprints and medical data.

Kombes Pol Didik Supranoto, Head of Public Relations for the South Sulawesi Police, reported that of the 76 people aboard the ill-fated vessel, 58 survived, four have been confirmed dead, and 14 remain missing. A joint SAR team is continuing the search in the surrounding waters. One additional body was recovered today, but its identity has not yet been established.

Regarding the legal process, Didik confirmed that police are investigating allegations of negligence and forcing the vessel to sail despite being overloaded. The number of witnesses examined has increased to 23, including the captain, crew members, and the harbour master.
