Haikou - Since the implementation of a “zero-tariff” policy for imported goods for residents of Hainan’s Free Trade Port one month ago, duty-free sales have reached 5.37 million yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,457), with 28,000 shopping visits recorded during the period from 11 February to 10 March, according to a report from Haikou Customs.

Over the past month, the range of products available in the “zero-tariff” duty-free stores has continued to expand, effectively meeting the daily needs of local residents. The stores have also launched various promotional campaigns, offering greater savings to Hainan residents.

The first batch of duty-free stores for daily consumer goods opened on 11 February 2026 in Haikou, Sanya, and Danzhou.

Eligible residents include Chinese citizens holding a Hainan identity card, local residency permit, or local social security card, as well as foreign personnel working and residing in Hainan with valid residency permits.

The policy covers daily necessities, including certain food and beverages, personal care products, household supplies, and maternity and children’s items. Each eligible resident receives an annual duty-free shopping quota of 10,000 yuan, with no restrictions on the frequency of purchases.
