Dutch defendant gives birth
TANGERANG, West Java (JP): A Dutch woman on trial for trafficking 11,370 Ecstasy pills gave birth to a baby boy at Tangerang General Hospital yesterday.
"I'm happy. I named him Johny Junior, after his father. My family has contacted my husband. He will probably come here from Amsterdam at the end of the month," BAR, 25, said.
BAR was rushed to hospital Tuesday when her water broke during the court hearing. The court was hearing testimony from Soekarno- Hatta International Airport customs official Heru Susanto.
Suddenly, she looked nervous and said she had wet her clothing and that contractions had started. Judge D.D. Siahaan stopped the trial and spectators surrounded BAR.
BAR is on trial Dutchman, EHS, 42. BAR was arrested on April 21 at Soekarno-Hatta airport. Customs officials found Ecstasy pills in her suitcase. EHS was arrested the next day when he went to the airport to pick up an acquaintance.
The defendants are charged with violating the 1992 Law on Health. They face a maximum of 15 years jail and a Rp 300 million (US$128,755) fine. (27/jun)
