Dust Pollution in Cipatat Mining Area: West Java DLH Investigates Alleged Air Contamination

A blanket of dust covering the roofs of residents’ homes has become a daily sight in the Cipatat area, West Bandung Regency. Initial laboratory test results from the West Java Environmental Agency (DLH) found three air pollutant parameters—Total Suspended Particulate (TSP), PM10, and PM2.5—exceeding environmental quality standards around the Citatah limestone factory and mining area. However, DLH stressed that these results are still preliminary and do not yet form the basis for a final conclusion, as further testing at a number of more representative points is still being conducted. The dust exposure is suspected to originate from activities in the Citatah limestone factory and mining area, which is located not far from residential settlements. The regional government, through the West Java DLH, continues to monitor air quality as a basis for formulating handling measures should the follow-up tests confirm the presence of pollution.
