Chair of the Tim Penggerak Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (TP PKK) Tri Tito Karnavian has urged the protection of women and children from violence. Tri stated that domestic violence (KDRT) is generally perpetrated by those in a superior position, in this case men or household heads. Meanwhile, sexual harassment against women and children is also often carried out by those who feel superior. Therefore, preventing KDRT and sexual harassment, both verbal and physical, is essential. “The rates of domestic violence or harassment against women and exploitation of children are extraordinarily high. This does not only happen here; it occurs worldwide. But we stand in our own environment, and we must prevent it together,” said Tri in a written statement on Sunday (19/4/2026). This emphasis was delivered by Tri while attending the Belu Regency PKK Cadre Meeting with the TP PKK Chair as part of the ‘Socialisation of Protection for Women and Children from Physical and Verbal Violence and Training on the Production and Management of Kemiri Oil Products’ event. The event took place at the Gedung Wanita Betelalenok in Belu Regency, Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), on Thursday (16/4). In that context, Tri encouraged parents to educate boys not to feel superior. According to Tri, boys have the same rights and obligations under the law and should not be taught to feel superior. “Our boys are actually the same as our girls. They must be educated equally,” said Tri. Furthermore, Tri continued, girls should not be pressured to accept circumstances but should be taught to boldly say no to things that violate their boundaries. Girls need to be encouraged to fight for their rights and to realise that they have equal opportunities in all aspects of life. Moreover, the law guarantees these rights and obligations. “Educate them to fight for their rights, to feel safe in their homes, safe in their environment, and to feel that they have equal opportunities in everything,” Tri explained. Tri affirmed that good education for children in Belu Regency will also support the Indonesia Emas 2045 programme. The children currently in school, especially at junior and senior high school levels, are expected to become leaders who can advance the region. Moreover, Belu Regency is the frontline of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), bordering Timor Leste. “I am also obliged to be present here, to give encouragement to all PKK cadres to work hard, to make Belu Regency prepare our children as human resources who will continue the continuity of the Republic of Indonesia, especially at the border,” said Tri. For information, the event was also attended by Belu Regent Willybrodus Lay, Chair of the Belu Regency TP PKK Lidwina Viviawaty Ng Lay, as well as officials from the Regional Apparatus Organisations (OPD) and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Belu Regency.
