During the corn harvest, the National Police Chief conveys farmers' aspirations to the President
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, conveyed farmers’ aspirations to President Prabowo Subianto regarding strengthening access to financing, fertilizer, seeds, and agricultural machinery to increase national food production.
During a report at the simultaneous corn harvest for the second quarter of 2026 in Tuban Regency, East Java, on Saturday, Listyo Sigit said that the Police had collaborated with the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) to facilitate the distribution of People’s Business Loans (KUR) to fostered farmer groups.
According to him, this financing facility is used by farmers to support agricultural production needs, ranging from the purchase of seeds to land preparation.
“It is used to purchase seeds and fertilizers, medicines such as herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, financing for tractor rentals for soil loosening, land processing, payment of labor wages, and various other operational needs,” said Sigit in a statement received in Jakarta.
The National Police Chief hopes that the government will strengthen access to KUR financing for farmers so that they can expand their land and increase production capacity sustainably.
“In this regard, we hope that Mr. President will support strengthening access to People’s Business Loans (KUR), both in terms of ease and increasing the amount of credit, which will later be used to open new land and support the process from upstream to downstream,” he said.
“So that farmers can increase production capacity, business independence, and rural economic growth,” said Sigit.
On that occasion, the National Police Chief also reported that currently there are 714 fostered corn farmer groups under the Police spread across 42 police precincts in eight regional police stations that have utilized KUR facilities with a total loan of IDR 30.03 billion.
In addition to access to financing, Sigit conveyed farmers’ aspirations who want additional assistance for agricultural production facilities to increase yields.
“In addition, farmers hope that they can receive more assistance regarding seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural machinery, so that it can support increased production,” he said.
The agricultural strengthening program is part of the Police’s support for the national food self-sufficiency agenda initiated by the government through increasing corn production and strengthening the food ecosystem from upstream to downstream.
