During Ramadan, Illegal Israeli Settlers Burn Palestinian Homes in Hebron
Acts of violence by illegal Israeli settlers have once again erupted in the occupied West Bank, Palestine. On Tuesday (24/4/2026) evening, a group of settlers raided the village of Susya, located south of Hebron, burning homes and vehicles belonging to Palestinians amidst the holy month of Ramadan.
According to a report by the human rights organisation Al-Baidar, the illegal settlers torched at least five homes and a number of vehicles. The attack caused massive property damage and spread immense fear, especially among women and children at the scene.
Local sources quoted by Anadolu stated that the attackers also fired tear gas into homes. As a result, four people were reported to be suffering from acute respiratory distress due to inhaling the toxic gas.
The village of Susya, located in the Masafer Yatta area, is known as a hotspot for conflict. Residents in the area routinely face intimidation, ranging from home raids to the destruction of agricultural land by illegal settlers. Local communities have repeatedly called for international protection to stop this cycle of violence.
Attacks in the West Bank have increased dramatically since the start of the Israeli military aggression in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The latest data from Palestinian authorities shows a worrying scale of humanitarian crisis in the occupied territory:
Palestinians warn that the escalation of violence is a systematic strategy to pave the way for the official annexation of the West Bank by Israel. If this continues, the prospect of establishing a sovereign Palestinian state in accordance with United Nations (UN) resolutions will be completely closed.
Under international law, the UN and the majority of the global community affirm that the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is occupied Palestinian territory. Any form of Israeli settlement construction in the area is declared illegal.
This was reaffirmed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in July 2024. In its landmark ruling, the ICJ stated that Israel’s prolonged occupation of Palestinian territory is illegal and called for the immediate evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in order to uphold international law.
