During Long Holiday, Ministry of Transportation Conducts Safety Inspections on 55 Bus Fleets
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation conducted safety inspections on 55 bus fleets at the KM 45 rest area on the Jagorawi Toll Road, Bogor Regency, West Java, on 14-15 May 2026. This activity is carried out routinely to guarantee the safety, security, and comfort of passengers and other road users.
The Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, revealed that of the total 55 bus fleets inspected, there were 44 tourist buses, seven intercity buses, and four intercity buses. He said that the ramp check found 19 units in violation.
“During these two days of the long holiday, the Directorate General of Land Transportation through the Class I West Java BPTD inspected 32 bus units on the first day of the ramp check and 23 bus units on the second day, for a total of 55 units inspected. It was found that 19 vehicles were deemed to be in violation, and 36 others were deemed to meet the administrative aspects and roadworthiness requirements,” said Aan Suhanan in Bogor, West Java, Friday (15/5/2026).
He explained that the supervision carried out included checking the completeness of administrative documents such as vehicle operational permits (KPS), periodic inspections (KIR), compliance with routes, completeness of driver administration, and fulfillment of safety aspects such as the technical condition of the vehicle to the readiness of the driver.
The violations found included four vehicles with expired periodic inspection (KIR) periods, three vehicles without KIR, and one vehicle suspected of having a fake KIR.
Then, seven vehicles have KPS that are no longer valid, six vehicles do not have KPS, one vehicle is suspected of having a fake KPS, and two vehicles deviated from the route.
“We are taking action against these violations in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. As a form of commitment and service from the Directorate General of Land Transportation to ensure that people arrive at their destination safely and to minimize the potential for accidents, we also provide free replacement buses for passengers if the vehicle used is deemed unfit for service,” said Aan.
Aan reminded all operators and bus drivers to always prioritize the safety of passengers and other road users.
He also urged operators and drivers to comply with the applicable provisions, ensure the roadworthiness of the fleet before operating, and ensure that the driver is in good health and condition.
“Bus operators and bus drivers must comply with all applicable provisions for the safety and security of passengers and other road users. In addition, we also urge the public before traveling by bus to check the roadworthiness of the bus that will be boarded through the Mitra Darat application,” said Aan.
The results of the inspection and enforcement will be used as an evaluation material for the Directorate General of Land Transportation in the future to improve the effectiveness of supervision and law enforcement against passenger transport operators.
Thus, it is hoped that the potential for traffic accidents can be reduced while increasing protection for road users.
