JAKARTA - The Kuala Tanjung–Tebing Tinggi–Parapat (Kuala Tanjung–Sinaksak) toll road recorded the highest traffic on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) during the Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return period in 2026.

PT Hutama Karya (Persero) noted that this section was traversed by more than 703,000 vehicles, making it the route with the largest traffic volume among other operational toll roads in Sumatra.

“Overall, the Eid homecoming and return traffic on JTTS proceeded smoothly. There was temporary congestion heading to and from the functional Palembang–Betung toll road section, but we acted swiftly by coordinating with local police and relevant agencies to implement traffic engineering,” said Iwan on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Based on company data, the total number of vehicles passing through JTTS during the period from 13 March 2026 to 30 March 2026 reached more than 3.3 million vehicles.

Overall, traffic on operational toll road sections increased by 84 per cent compared to normal traffic volumes.

Meanwhile, the highest increase relative to normal conditions was recorded on the Sigli–Banda Aceh toll road, reaching 236 per cent.

For functional toll road sections, the Sigli–Banda Aceh Section 1 (Seulimeum–Padang Tiji) and the Palembang–Betung (Kramasan–Pangkalan Balai) each were traversed by more than 86,000 vehicles during that period.

The peak homecoming traffic occurred on 18 March 2026, with a total of more than 194,000 vehicles.

Meanwhile, the peak return traffic was recorded on 23 March 2026, with a total of more than 264,000 vehicles.

Iwan assessed that this high traffic indicates that JTTS is increasingly becoming the primary choice for the public for long-distance journeys, supported by expanding connectivity across various regions in Sumatra.

To maintain smooth traffic flow, Hutama Karya also implemented several strategies, including a 30 per cent toll discount during the homecoming and return period on seven JTTS sections.

Hutama Karya views the smooth flow of Eid homecoming and return traffic in 2026 on JTTS as the result of coordination among various parties, including relevant ministries and law enforcement authorities.
