The Chief of South Sumatra Police, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, held an Iftar gathering with youth organisations, Cipayung Plus, and students from across South Sumatra at the Harper Hotel in Palembang on Monday (23/2). Inspector General Sandi emphasised the role of young people in national stability.

In a statement received by detikcom on Thursday (26/2/2026), the event was not just a Ramadan gathering, but part of the Indonesian National Police’s dialogical approach to building preventive collaboration with young people as strategic partners in maintaining security and public order (Harkamtibmas).

Inspector General Sandi led the Iftar event, accompanied by senior officials from the South Sumatra Police. In his speech, Inspector General Sandi emphasised that security stability cannot be built solely by law enforcement agencies, but requires the active involvement of all elements of the nation, especially young people and students.

According to him, students and youth organisations have an important role as a moral force and agent of change that influences public opinion and maintains a conducive social atmosphere.

“Harkamtibmas is not just the task of the Indonesian National Police. This is a shared responsibility. It is from forums like this that future leaders will emerge who will determine the direction of the nation,” said the Chief of South Sumatra Police.

He also invited all student organisations to maintain a narrative of unity, reject provocation, and encourage constructive and solution-oriented discussions. Inspector General Sandi emphasised that differences of opinion are part of the dynamics of democracy, but must be managed in a spirit of unity and national interest.

Since taking office in early January, Inspector General Sandi has been actively building communication with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), religious leaders, community leaders, and leaders of student organisations. This step is part of a cooling system strategy to keep the situation in South Sumatra safe and conducive.

The Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Police, Commissioner Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, added that this activity is a manifestation of the South Sumatra Police’s commitment to building equal and inclusive relationships with young people.

“We see this momentum of Ramadan as an opportunity to strengthen national brotherhood. The dialogue that has been established today is an important foundation in maintaining South Sumatra as a safe, peaceful, and inclusive place,” he said.

Through this collaborative approach, the South Sumatra Police affirms that security stability is not merely the result of law enforcement, but also the fruit of communication, partnership, and the active participation of young people in maintaining unity and the integrity of the nation.
