A Commuter Line train on the Duri-Tangerang route suddenly stopped at the Rawa Buaya level crossing in RT 01/RW 11, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon. A passenger named Novi (30) said on Tuesday that the incident occurred around 5 PM. ‘It was around 5 o’clock. I was travelling from Duri to Tangerang after work,’ Novi said from inside the train carriage with doors open. She added she was unsure what to do after the train stopped suddenly. ‘Just wait until it starts again,’ she said. At 6:40 PM, the train remained stationary with some passengers alighting while others remained onboard. The carriage lights were off, flickering on and off intermittently. The incident drew local residents, with children and adults gathering around the rear carriage positioned at the road and rail crossing. Meanwhile, the level crossing barriers on Daan Mogot Road and the opposite direction remained closed. Many drivers were delayed, opting to turn around for alternative routes. Others parked in front of the barriers to watch the stationary train. Additionally, the crossing alarm continued to sound, indicating an incident at the crossing. Tensions rose as trains passed from Tangerang to Duri. The halted train and crowds at the crossing caused passing trains to slow down. As of publication, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) had not released further details on the incident.
