Duri-Tangerang commuter train halts after passengers hear three explosions

Passengers on the Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line train heard three explosions before it suddenly halted at the level crossing in RT 01/RW 11 Rawa Buaya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon. ‘I heard explosions. It went boom, the train went dead, then came back on, boom again, dead, then on, boom again, then dead. Shortly after, the train stopped and hasn’t moved since. The blasts came from inside the train, like a ’dug’ sound,’ said Tasya, 25, to reporters at the scene. The explosions caused the lights in the carriages to go out, sending passengers into a panic. Tasya and some others disembarked due to fears of further incidents. ‘I was travelling from Kampung Bandan to Tangerang. I got off here at the level crossing. The doors opened,’ she added. Another passenger, Butar, 45, who was in carriage three during the incident, confirmed the blasts originated there. ‘I was in carriage three, heard three explosions around 5 PM,’ he said. He moved to the front carriage after the blasts and stayed onboard until the train resumed movement. At 6:40 PM WIB, the train remained stationary, with some passengers alighting while others stayed on board. The carriage lights were off but flickered on and off intermittently. The incident drew local residents, with children and adults surrounding the rear carriage at the road and rail crossing. The level crossing barriers on Daan Mogot Road and the opposite direction remained closed, causing traffic congestion as drivers diverted or parked to watch the halted train. The crossing sirens continued to blare, indicating an incident at the crossing. The situation became tense as trains from Tangerang to Duri passed by, slowing down due to the stopped train and crowds at the crossing. As of publication, KAI (Indonesian Railways) has not released further details on the incident.
