Duri-Tangerang Commuter Line Evacuated to Rawa Buaya Station

Commuter Line (KRL) Duri-Tangerang service halted after explosions at the RT 01/RW 11 Rawa Buaya level crossing in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Tuesday afternoon and was subsequently evacuated to Rawa Buaya Station. Observations at the scene showed the passenger-carrying KRL was pushed by another train from behind at 6:48 PM after stalling at 5 PM.

Zainul, a railway crossing guard at Klingkit, Rawa Buaya, said the faulty KRL was taken to Rawa Buaya Station for further handling. “The train was pushed by another KRL to Rawa Buaya Station. It will be repaired there,” he told reporters Tuesday night, adding the move was to allow road traffic to resume. “Vehicles could pass here too,” he said.

Passengers reported hearing three explosions before the train suddenly stopped. “I heard explosions. It went bang, the train stopped, then started again, bang, stopped, started, bang, then stopped. Shortly after, the train halted and hasn’t moved since. The explosions came from inside the KRL, like a ‘thud’ sound,” said Tasya (25). The explosions caused carriage lights to go out, prompting panic among passengers. Some disembarked due to fear, including Tasya, who was travelling from Kampung Bandan to Tangerang.

Another passenger, Butar (45), was in carriage three when the explosions occurred. “I was in carriage three and heard three explosions from there around 5 PM,” he said. He moved to the front carriage and stayed on board until the train could move again.

Local residents gathered around the rear carriage at the road-rail crossing. Meanwhile, barriers towards Daan Mogot Road and the opposite direction remained closed, causing delays for drivers who opted to turn back or park to watch the stationary train.
