Duri Station Escalators Still Under Repair, Causing Long Queues for KRL Passengers
PT KAI Commuter is continuing repairs on the escalators at Duri Station, West Jakarta, which suddenly moved in reverse, causing several passengers to sustain injuries. KRL commuters attempting to use the escalators were seen queuing extensively.
Observations at Duri Station on Monday (5/10/2026) showed that the malfunctioning escalator remained covered with black tarpaulin. Staff were stationed near the site to direct passengers on Platform 5.
While one escalator remains functional for passenger use, those disembarking from KRL trains and attempting to change platforms or exit the station were seen crowding to use the single operational escalator. A KRL staff member noted that both escalators were initially used for upward travel, but due to the ongoing repairs, only one is currently operational, resulting in passenger queues.
Meanwhile, some passengers have opted to use the manual stairs instead. “It is usually not this crowded, but because of the breakdown, the crowd is building up,” said one KRL passenger.
PT KAI Commuter is conducting these repairs with a primary focus on safety following the incident where the escalator moved backwards. Karina Amanda, VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, stated that the repairs were still ongoing as of Sunday (4/10) afternoon, and the company is working to expedite the process.
“As of this afternoon (last Thursday), repairs are still underway. KAI Commuter is making every effort to accelerate the completion of the repairs while prioritising the safety and functionality of the escalator facilities,” Karina told reporters on Monday (5/10/2026).
