Duri Station Escalators Still Out of Service; Additional Staff Deployed During Peak Hours
PT KAI Commuter is still conducting repairs on the escalators at Duri Station, West Jakarta, which suddenly moved in reverse, causing several passengers to sustain injuries. The repairs are being carried out with a primary focus on safety.
VP Corporate Secretary of KAI Commuter, Karina Amanda, stated that the escalator repairs are ongoing until Sunday (4/10) afternoon. The company is making every effort to accelerate the repair process.
“As of this afternoon (last Thursday), repairs are still underway. KAI Commuter is striving to expedite the completion of the repairs while prioritising the safety and functionality of the escalator facility,” Karina told reporters on Monday (5/10/2026).
Karina noted that the escalators will not be immediately put back into service once repairs are finished and may not be usable today. KAI Commuter will first conduct rigorous testing to ensure the facility is safe for re-use.
“Once the escalator repairs are complete, a thorough inspection and testing process will be conducted before it is returned to service,” she added.
KAI Commuter also expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused by the incident.
To manage passenger flow at Duri Station on Monday (5/10), KAI Commuter will increase the number of staff at several points. These officers will assist passengers, including those with priority needs.
“We apologise for the inconvenience caused. To prepare for managing passenger flow at Duri Station tomorrow, we will optimise the addition of staff to assist passengers, including priority users,” said Karina.
KAI Commuter has urged Commuter Line passengers to follow the directions of station staff. This measure is intended to maintain smooth passenger movement while the escalators remain under repair.
“We urge Commuter Line users to follow the instructions and guidance provided by staff at the station,” she added.
Previously, the escalators at Duri Station suddenly moved backwards while being used by passengers on Saturday (3/10). The incident caused several passengers to fall and suffer injuries.
KAI Commuter has provided assistance to the victims and is coordinating with relevant parties to ensure that those injured receive proper medical treatment.
