Dumai Police Seize 32 kg of Methamphetamine from Malaysia

The Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Dumai Police Resort, Riau Province, has seized a total of 32 kilogrammes of methamphetamine from two cases, with the evidence in both instances originating from Malaysia.

Dumai Police Chief, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Angga Febrian Herlambang, stated that in the first case, officers arrested three suspects, identified by the initials SU (44), AK (52), and BA (47). From the suspects, officers seized approximately 27 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

“The uncovering of this case began when a Customs patrol boat intercepted a vessel and a man suspected of carrying illegal goods on Sunday night (7/6),” he said during a press conference in Dumai on Wednesday.

The suspect was carrying a cardboard box containing 26 packages of methamphetamine wrapped in green Chinese tea packaging. According to his confession, the illicit goods were to be picked up by an individual with the initials BA, who was subsequently arrested in Dumai City.

“According to the statement from suspect BA, the owner of these 26 packages of methamphetamine is AK, who was located on Rupat Island, Bengkalis Regency,” Angga stated.

Officers then carried out a pursuit and arrested AK at his home in Kadur Village, North Rupat District, Bengkalis. The three suspects were taken to the Dumai Police Headquarters for further investigation.

In a separate case, officers arrested a suspect with the initials AM, who was carrying 5 kilogrammes of methamphetamine from Malaysia. He was apprehended during an inspection at the port.

Based on the results of the examination, Angga explained that the 27 kilogrammes of methamphetamine were destined for Jambi, while the 5 kilogrammes were headed to Aceh. The four suspects are charged under the Narcotics Law, which carries a maximum penalty of death, life imprisonment, or a prison term of up to 20 years and a minimum of 5 years.
