Dukono Volcano Erupts Twice This Morning, Spewing Ash Up to 3,000 Metres

According to the Pusat Vulkanologi & Mitigasi Bencana Geologi (PVMBG), on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, the first eruption occurred at 06:21 WIT. The height of the ash column reached 1,700 metres above the summit.

“An eruption of G. Dukono occurred on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at 06:21 WIT with observed ash column height of ±1,700 m above the summit (± 2,787 m above sea level),” it said.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the north and northwest. The eruption was ongoing.

The second eruption occurred at 07:25 WIT. The height of the ash column reached 3,000 metres above the summit.

“An eruption of G. Dukono occurred on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, at 07:25 WIT with observed ash column height of ±3,000 m above the summit (± 4,087 m above sea level),” it said.

The ash column was observed to be white to grey with thick intensity towards the north. At the time of reporting, the eruption was ongoing.
