Dukcapil Restores 11,225 Population Documents for Flores Earthquake Victims

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has moved swiftly following the earthquake that struck Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Six disaster response teams from the Directorate General were deployed to seven affected regencies to restore population documents, led by senior officials within the department.

Since the earthquake hit Flores, many residents have lost more than just their homes. Many have also lost essential documents that serve as keys to accessing aid, education, and healthcare services.

Demonstrating the seriousness of the Dukcapil team in following the Minister of Home Affairs’ directive to take proactive measures, the initiative aimed to restore more than 11,000 damaged or lost population documents. This was achieved through collaboration with local Dukcapil offices in the affected regencies to re-issue documents for the victims.

The reissued documents include electronic ID cards (KTP-el), Family Cards (KK), birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, child identity cards (KIA), and population movement documents. For earthquake victims who lost paperwork while fleeing, this service is more than just an administrative matter; identity documents are vital for accessing government assistance and basic services.

The Director General of Dukcapil, Teguh Setyabudi, stated that services during disaster situations must be conducted differently. Consequently, officers do not wait for citizens to visit the office; they bring service equipment directly to the field.
