The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs recorded 5.5 million Indonesian residents experiencing divorce in 2025. The detailed divorce figures for 2025 were presented by Dukcapil Director General Teguh Setyabudi while releasing the Net Population Data (DKB) for the Second Semester of 2025 at an event themed “A Portrait of Indonesia’s Diversity in One National Population Database” on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Based on the Net Population Data for the Second Semester of 2025, 137,007,707 residents were recorded as married. Meanwhile, those who had never married numbered 131,713,077, those divorced whilst living numbered 5,591,324, and those divorced through death of spouse totalled 14,002,981.

Setyabudi stated that this data demonstrates that the family serves as the dominant primary social unit in Indonesia. “The high number of marriages reflects cultural and religious norms that place the family at the centre of community life, and philosophically, the family is a demographic pillar that maintains population continuity and social stability,” said Teguh.

In the view of the Dukcapil Director General, population data functions as a large map depicting the nation’s character. “From this map, we can read the direction of Indonesia’s journey, whilst simultaneously preparing provisions for the future,” he stated.

Demographically, Indonesia’s population data resembles a vast garden with diverse flowers. “Population data ensures that every flower is recorded, so we understand how rich and diverse this garden is. Accurate national data is the key to preserving that diversity so it remains beautiful and protected,” said Teguh.

Based on the Net Population Data for the Second Semester 2025, Indonesia’s total population reached 288,315,089 residents, with a higher number of males.

The majority of Indonesia’s population currently falls within the productive age group. By the Second Semester of 2025, 199,026,595 residents were aged between 15 and 64 years.

The Net Population Data represents the outcome of rigorous data cleaning and synchronisation processes to eliminate duplicate or anomalous data. The percentage of electronic ID (KTP-el) recording has reached 97.47 per cent, representing 206,467,957 residents out of a total of 211,826,747 eligible for registration. Dukcapil also released unique data on Indonesia’s longest name, with Director General Teguh Setyabudi revealing the name contains 79 characters.
