Dukcapil Issues 358 Civil Documents for Earthquake Victims in West Manggarai

The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs is working swiftly to restore residents’ civil documents following the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara. Led by Secretary of Ditjen Dukcapil Hani Syopiar Rustam, the Ministry’s Disaster Response Team conducted mobile outreach services in West Manggarai Regency on Monday (24/8/2026).

The team deployed to the field under the direct instruction of Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian and Director General of Dukcapil Teguh Setyabudi. Minister Tito tasked Ditjen Dukcapil with assisting residents whose civil documents were lost or damaged due to the earthquake, including electronic ID cards, birth certificates, and family cards.

‘I will immediately instruct the Director General of Dukcapil to coordinate with regency and provincial Dukcapil offices,’ Tito said during a visit to an evacuation post in Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, last week.

Director General Teguh Setyabudi deployed six service unit teams to seven affected regencies on Flores Island. In addition to West Manggarai, technical teams were dispatched to Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ngada, Nagekeo, Ende, and Sikka regencies. ‘Dukcapil is present on site to ensure services continue to operate and that residents can promptly obtain the civil registration documents they need quickly, easily, and free of charge,’ Teguh said in Jakarta on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

Upon arriving in Labuan Bajo, the delegation led by Secretary Hani Syopiar Rustam immediately inspected the West Manggarai Regency Dukcapil Office. Despite the building sustaining damage in the form of wall cracks due to the earthquake tremors, civil registration services for the public were confirmed to be operating normally.
